As a youngster growing up in Los Angeles, and for a time (ages 15 to 18) in Portland, Oregon, Lindsay experienced little but poverty.  Her parents were seperated and then divorced when she was quite young, and Lindsay lived with her mother and grandparents.

They went through some bad times.  Her mother worked nights, and she would spend much of the time taking care of her sister.  When she turned 13, she started modeling and was quite successful for five years.  The money came in handy at home since she was making $50 an hour.

Lindsay's greatest asset in her youth was the fact that she never looked her age.  Everyone always assumed she was much older.  At 13, she was modeling college-age clothes, being tall helped give the impression that she was older.  She was also quite sophisticated and gives credit for that to modeling, which gave her poise.

Though a mediocre student, she enrolled at the University of Oregon.  She wanted to see if she could get interested in a higher education.  But after a year and being dyslexic, she discovered she was hopeless.  She just wasn't into school.  Her thoughts were constantly on becoming an actress.  She knew what she was going to do and a college education didn't fit into her plans.  Except for a couple of years in which she studied acting with James Best, she had no formal dramatic training.  Yet she has given considerable thought to any role she has ever undertaken.

She was brought up as a Baptist and was "intensely religious" from 7 to 17.  No one had to drag her to church.  She didn't always go to Baptist churches, either.  She'd walk into a Catholic or Methodist church and be equally happy.

But then she drifted away from the church, and today she's not a member of any organized religion, though very heavy with positive thinking and promoting peace.
