Lindsay Wagner plays Dr. Jessie Hayden, a staff psychiatrist with the Los Angeles Police Department. Jessie matches wits with psychopathic killers, works with troubled individuals and finds herself in the middle of tense hostage negotiations.

She needs all her training to deal with her colleague Lt. Alex Ascoli, a hard-line cop with a severe case of ambivalence: he is skeptical of Jessie's methods and becomes livid when she ignores police procedure, but grudgingly admits that the doctor gets results. She also needs that skill in handling her outspoken mother, Molly Hayden.

A total of nine episodes and one television movie were filmed. The pilot movie as well as 6 episodes aired before if was cancelled. The remaining three episodes aired as part of a syndicated package.
