ABC slates six new shows next year

ABC Television will present six new programs starting early in 1976, each offering a wide and
different range of entertainment. The new schedule will include a bright new musical comedy variety series, an exciting fantasy-adventure hour, an innovative show featuring nationwide competition, a new situation comedy from the "Happy Days" creative team,and an unusual new detective series.

"Rich Man, Poor Man" will be part of a new Monday night schedule of major event programming, highlighted by the coverage of the 1976 Winter Olympics from Innsbruck,important motion pictures,
entertainment specials and other outstanding sports attractions.

James E. Duffy, President of the ABC Television Network, said: "1976 will be the most unusual year in the history of network television. It offers ABC a unique opportunity and the most challenging year we have ever faced with both Olympic Games, the political campaign, and a broad variety of special bicentennial, dramatic and sports programs.

This new and ambitious prime time schedule will further strengthen our improved ratings position and enable us to meet this programming challenge with a solid base of popular and broad ranging
entertainment programming."

The new programs are:

—"Donny and Marie," of the famed Osmond musical family, will star at 8:00 p.m., Fridays,in a spectacular musical comedy-variety series that won one of the highest ratings of any entertainment pilot of the fall season and ranked No. 10 in the national Nielsens.

—"Almost Anything Goes," the only new hit on any network last summer, returns at 8:00 p.m., Saturday, January 24, with new zany contests in new states and a fever pitch of excitement.

—"The Bionic Woman" will star Lindsay Wagner as the female counterpart of Steve Austin, ABC's fabled "The Six Million Dollar Man." The bionic woman made four appearances this season on "The Six Million Dollar Man," boosting the series into the top five in national ratings. She will be reintroduced on Sunday, January 11, on that series in a two-part story that will be concluded on
Wednesday, January 14, with the premiere of "The Bionic Woman."

-Motion picture star Paul Sorvino will play the title role in "Superstar," a sleuth who introduces New York ,'police methods to San Francisco. The character will make its debut on
the February 19 episode of "The Streets of San Francisco," two days before "Superstar"
premieres on Saturday, February 21, at 10:00 p.m.

—"Laverne and Shirley," starring Penny Marshall and Cindy Williams as two kooky friends in the Milwaukee of the 1960s, were first seen in a recent episode of ABC's "Happy Days." They will be seen again in that hit series before making their debut on Tuesday, January 20, 8:30 p.m., the time period following "Happy Days." Henry (Fonzie) Winkler and other characters from "Happy Days" will make occasional appearances on "Laverne and Shirley."

"0n the Rocks" and "Welcome Back, Kotter," two half-hour comedies, were immediate hits upon their debut last fall. In their new time periods, both programs, "On the Rocks" on Mondays and
"Welcome Back, Kotter" on Thursdays, will have an opportunity for increased success as lead-off programs of an evening.
