Okay, Harvey Bennett, executive producer of Six Million Dollar Man, when last we talked you didn't hold out much hope of Lindsay Wagner ever returning as bionic woman Jaime Sommers. Now, not only is she to appear in a two-parter in mid-January with Lee Majors but she's going into her own series. What happened? "Well, we made a deal under rather rapid, impressive circumstances," replies Bennett. "Lindsay recognized the full impact of how many people had seen her and liked her." That—and a huge chunk of money, of course—was enough of an inducement for her to return. She will not be a female Steve Austin—with vigorous running and jumping bionics— this time, but instead will lead a double life.
"She will be deposited in her hometown (Ojai, Calif.), become a teacher on an Air Force base, with children of servicemen in her class. She will live in a kind of rustic setting on a property owned by Steve's parents who, you'll recall, were like foster parents to her," Bennett adds.
From this environment she will be whisked away by Oscar Goldman from time to time to do occasional missions! An operation has stabilized her memory. She will recall her romance with Steve, but not the emotion that went with it. This opens the way for more romantic interludes for the new Jaime Sommers.
On the subject of crossovers—Steve on Jaime's series and vice versa—Bennett says he hopes they will occur. "We can't guarantee it. We're trying to work out the complicated details."
