Joanna Darby is definitely not having fun. Her mother has recently died, and her lover has deserted her. After she falls into a swimming pool and almost drowns, things go from bad to worse. She has an out-of-body experience while drowning, during which shadowy figures tug and pull at her.

After Joanna is revived, she keeps running into strangers who seem determined to kill her. Her new lover takes her on a vacation to get away from all the spooky things that have been happening.
