Biozhem Announces New Results from Anti-Aging Skin Care Infomercial; Company Preparing for Nationwide Rollout

14 Jan 2002

LAKE FOREST, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 14, 2002

Biozhem Cosmeceuticals Inc. (OTCBB:BZHM) today reported plans to increase its broadcast advertising expenditures, as a result of encouraging results from the test marketing of its new infomercial, "The RevitaCel(TM) Age-Defying Skin Care System" featuring Emmy(R)-winning actress Lindsay Wagner.

From Dec. 28, 2001 to Jan. 2, 2002, Biozhem aired the infomercial 18 times on national cable and local broadcast stations. During the test run, the average ratio of media dollars spent to actual income reached 2.89.

A ratio of 2.0 is indicative of a hit show. Moreover, the RevitaCel System offers a continuity (automatic shipment) program. Using the conservative industry standard of 2.5 continuity orders per customer, the media-to-sales ratio would rise to 5.3. Should orders per customer exceed this conservative estimate, the ratio will continue to rise.

Biozhem chairman and CEO Jim Chapin said: "RevitaCel is derived from life-saving medical research for the healing of burns and wounds, making it unlike any other product available directly to consumers. We believe that the breakthrough nature of our product is reflected in the results we have achieved. I'm particularly pleased that we reached a 3.3 ratio in our initial test on CNBC.

"Although preliminary in nature, the score suggests that we have the potential to run well on large national cable stations. Based on all the testing we have done to date, we will now begin to increase the size of our media buys as we move forward with our national rollout."

The 30-minute infomercial, produced by award-winning Script to Screen Productions, Santa Ana, Calif., features Wagner, international skin care expert Marion Simms, and testimonials from a number of women who have experienced extraordinary results from the system.

Since its launch, the infomercial has been tested in a number of markets nationwide, and on national cable channels such as CNBC, Oxygen, Product Information Network and Style.

Tony Kerry, senior vice president of marketing at Script to Screen, commented: "During our years in the infomercial business, we have been fortunate to be associated with many highly successful infomercials. Throughout its test period, the RevitaCel System infomercial has continued to perform better and better.

"The most recent test results indicate that this infomercial may outperform our highest expectations."

The RevitaCel System features NouriCel(TM), a breakthrough bioengineered ingredient from Advanced Tissue Sciences Inc., a leading tissue engineering company that develops and manufactures human-based therapeutic products for tissue repair and transplantation. NouriCel is derived from the company's patented process for growing skin to treat victims of serious burns and wounds.

As the tissue grows, it produces a variety of human growth factors, matrix proteins, soluble collagens and other factors that are present in healthy young skin, but are depleted by sun, aging and other stressors. As the key ingredient in RevitaCel's Replenishing Complex, NouriCel replenishes the skin with the powerful natural nutrients it made when it was young.

In addition to the key product featuring breakthrough skin care technology, the RevitaCel System includes a line of unique products that provides a complete skin care regimen.

Featuring proprietary formula Berridroxies, a unique extraction of European berries that performs the work of alpha-hydroxy acids without the usual accompanying irritation, the products have proven safe for all skin types. Offered with the RevitaCel System are an Activating Serum to exfoliate and prepare the skin to receive the Replenishing Complex with NouriCel, a Foaming Cleanser, and a 24-Hour Moisturizer.

In addition to the television offer, the products are available through Biozhem's Customer Care Center at 800/535-1007. For investor relations, call 888/215-9630.
